Jewish Chaplaincy

The Jewish Chaplaincy, led by the Jewish Chaplain, works closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni and families to support the Jewish community at Emory through a progressive and pluralistic approach. The Jewish Chaplain also works with Emory's Jewish Religious Life Affiliate organizations.

The Jewish Chaplain provides outreach and helps to organize the Jewish communities, develops leadership groups, and collaboratively plans, develops, and implements high-quality spiritual life programs including weekly gatherings, holiday observances, retreats, service and social justice projects, and fellowship events.

The Jewish Chaplain is also available for pastoral care and leadership in invocations, weddings, memorial services, vigils, and other rituals as needed. The Jewish Chaplaincy works closely with other OSRL chaplains, staff, and students on interfaith initiatives and connects the campus with local, regional, and national opportunities and resources. Emory Jewish Life Programming

• Weekly Torah Study, Fridays during term, 2 p.m., AMUC 125;
  • Join Rabbi Jordan and fellow members of the Emory community for learning that is based on the weekly Torah portion. The class will look at classical texts, commentaries, as well as poetry, literary criticism, and modern interpretation. All are welcome!
• Soul Conversations
  • Whether we are religious, spiritual, atheist or altogether uncertain, there is so much that we can learn about ourselves and the world by being in one-on-one conversation. All are welcome to join Rabbi Jordan for a coffee and a light chat about life’s ultimate meaning. No answers promised, but questions are encouraged. • Shabbat Services
  • Looking for Shabbat services? Contact Rabbi Jordah to learn more. Chabad (Fridays 8:00 p.m. services, 8:30 p.m. dinner) and Hillel (Fridays, 6:30 p.m. services, 7:00 p.m. dinner) host weekly services and dinners and there are also off campus opportunities. 
• Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Chanukah, Passover, and holiday Jewish holiday programming
• Yom HaShoah programming
• International Holocaust Remembrance Day programming
• Advising on-campus Jewish student organizations 
• Jewish Life Working Group to enhance the campus climate for Jewish students, faculty and staff 
• Pastoral Care and support with Religious Accommodations including kosher dining, housing and academics; prayer spaces; support for international students
• Tutoring, internships, student jobs, grant support, awards, and recommendation letters
• Support for interfaith programming such as WISE Pre-Orientation, Inter-Religious Council, Journeys of Reconciliation, and others

• Chabad at Emory - Chabad at Emory offers opportunities to pray, Shabbat meals, classes and events for Jewish students. 

• Hillel at Emory - Hillel at Emory is a pluralistic organization that provides various opportunities for Jewish students on campus. This includes Jewish holidays and rituals, social programs, leadership, education, Tikkun Olam, and Israel programs and travel. 

• MEOR at Emory - MEOR at Emory offers Jewish trips in North America and Israel, Maimonides Leaders Fellowship, Lunch and Learns, Shabbatons in the Atlanta community and weekly Shabbat meals for Jewish students.

Jewish Life Working Group

Emory's dean of religious life and Jewish chaplain co-chair the monthly meetings of the Jewish Life Working Group, which is a channel for communication among Emory administration, faculty, staff, students and affiliates to support vibrant Jewish life on campus and promote an inclusive culture. It includes OSRL, Emory Campus Life, the Tam Institute for Jewish Studies, Emory’s Jewish Religious Life Affiliates staff (Chabad, Hillel and Meor), and students. The group sponsors annual Emory Chanukah and Yom HaShoah collaborative observances, and also meets to discuss and address other events and issues as they arise.
